Covers all aspects of flight data and voice data for both accident investigation and accident prevention. Flight data challenges are independent of whether or not the aircraft is involved in an accident. The course is designed for accident investigators both generalists and those who wish to specialize in flight data analysis.
A unique, practitioner-oriented course in the field of aircraft accident investigation and prevention designed for a wide range of government and industry aviation safety investigators and managers. It is designed specially for those who will be investigators in charge (IIC) or who will have to manage or participate in accident investigations in a variety of settings and situations ranging from small local accidents to large international settings.
Present the elements of an effective family assistance response plan. Attendees will review ICAO, NTSB requirements and actual response plans. Each attendee will develop the preliminary outline for a family assistance response plan for their organization.
Provides the media professional with a non-technical overview of the process of aircraft accident investigation. Participants will be introduced to the steps in the investigation process and will learn how the investigator develops information from the evidence.
It is essential that accident investigators and aircraft safety personnel understand the technology and operation of the aircraft, and how these two disciplines relate to each other in accidents. This course presents a relatively “low-tech, non-mathematical” introduction to participants who have a varied academic background.
Review how the various elements of ATS/ATC have developed incrementally with other historical advances in aviation. Equipment, operational limitations, enroute, terminal and flight service and advisory facilities and airborne equipment will be presented.
Focuses on the aircraft cabin environment and related investigation requirements. Attendees will be presented with information to satisfy the requirements for participation in a major investigation assigned to Cabin Safety and Survivability groups. In addition, attendees will become familiar with the design requirements for major transport aircraft with particular focus on survivability considerations.
The principles and techniques discussed in this course are applicable to all branches of aviation, including commercial operations, the military, and general aviation. While this course is primarily concerned with larger commercial operators, almost all of the principles, lessons and examples are directly transferable across the spectrum of aircraft operations.
Provides participants with an overview of avionics and electrical systems, and an introduction to the new advanced avionics systems being introduced on modern aircraft. The course will also cover traditional and new sources of data that are becoming standard in industry and could be important in the critical examination phase of the accident investigation.
Designed to introduce the aircraft accident investigator to the fundamentals of fire investigation. Based on the NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, the course will begin with some basic fire science concepts and how fires begin and propagate.
A “hands on” course where attendees get a complete practice for investigation and reporting of an aircraft accident investigation. Attendees will conduct a structured investigation, work in teams and learn by doing. The investigation will be based on an actual accident recreated in the SCSI crash lab and consist of airframe, engines, and systems. This course will involve attendees in all elements of an aircraft accident investigation including the drafting of an accident report.
What is the value of GPS timed-position information to the manager or accident investigator? How can this information be used to improve flight safety? The purpose and content of this 5-day, hands-on course is designed to answer these questions.
This course is aimed at gas turbine engines installed in aircraft as part of the propulsion system. The initial part of the course is designed so that the student will receive a general understanding of the terminology, layout and function of the internal workings of a jet engine allowing the student to focus on the investigative techniques, technology and analysis required in the more technical part of the GTAI course.
Helicopter accidents provide many new challenges for the investigator principally because of the dynamic factors involved in helicopter performance. Knowledge and experience in fixed wing aircraft accident investigation does provide a basic reference since most systems found on helicopters are similar to those found on fixed wing aircraft. There are however some very distinct differences. Most unique are the rotor systems and the aerodynamics of rotary wing flight. These are the focuses of the Helicopter Accident Investigation Course.
A “hands on” course where attendees conduct an aircraft accident investigation from beginning to end. Attendees will be immersed in an investigation, work in teams and learn by doing. The investigation will be based on an actual accident recreated in the crash lab and consist of airframe, engines, and complex systems. There will be a team of SCSI instructors. The course is fast paced and intensive.
Certified Program Completion
Once a participant has completed five (5) courses, SCSI will award the Certificate of Aircraft Accident Investigation. The completed courses will be listed and ackknowledgement of your achievment.
Upon approval by SCSI, you may transfer in credit for equivalent course taken elsewhere. SCSI will accept equivlalent miliary or commercial courses from another provider on a case by case basis taken within five years of the certificate date.
